Dewa Putu Rindy
Dewa Putu Rindy was born in May 1973 in Ubud, Bali. Being the first child in a family of artists, Rindy was initiated into the world of visual art at a very young age. In his formative years, Rindy was taught by his father and uncles, whom are accomplished painters in their respective Balinese communities. As a young boy, Rindy was trained in traditional Balinese painting, which helped to build a strong foundation for his appreciation of complex composition and the application of colours. At the tender age of 12, Rindy already proved his talent by being able to sell his works at established galleries such as Rudana Gallery and Agung Raka Gallery.
In 1989, Rindy received formal art education at the Senior High School of Fine Art (“SMSR”) in Denpasa, Bali. SMSR is an institution where budding artists receive a structured and rigorous training in both the theoretical and practical aspects of artistic creation. It was during this period that Rindy started to experiment with different mediums and ways of expression. He did impressionist painting, portraiture as well as abstract painting. It was in abstract art that Rindy found himself to be most expressive and comfortable. He was able to free his imagination and emotions on the canvas to create beautiful works of art on subjects that were most familiar to him, such as Mother Nature and the religious ceremonies that take place in traditional Balinese society. He also found the freedom to create surreal shapes and forms from his fantasy world.
At 35 years old, Rindy is certainly a young emerging artist worth watching and capable of further breakthroughs.
